ExpressYard works by marrying several technologies into one harmonious package. Mobile handhelds and office PCs are used to input and maintain car and task information in the system. Invoices and reports are generated from that information and sent directly to customers or other personnel via email or fax.

Car and task information is first input using either an ExpressYard handheld or a web browser on a PC. It is then transferred to the system wirelessly or via an existing internet connection, respectively. The system stores this information for reuse later. After all information is entered and finalized in the system, cars are released for billing. Invoices are generated and sent directly to customers from the website via email or fax. All of this information is then kept in the system for future use or referral.
Throughout the lifetime of information in the system, from initial input to after the completion of billing, it is available for use in reports. To ensure this availability, information is backed up continuously to both on-site and off-site locations.
Components of ExpressYardExpressYard is comprised of some components that are directly controlled by the customer and some that are not. The customer controls the handhelds, PCs and internet connectivity that is used to input and maintain the information in the system. The customer is not responsible for maintaining the servers that house the ExpressYard system, ensuring the security and availability of the information in the system or deploying software updates.
These responsibilities are described in the diagram below.
